We share tips on how to build and travel in a school bus conversion ("skoolie"), travel with a family, and move abroad to Sweden.
Hi Reader!
It's such a blast from the past to relive our skoolie tour and the memories we created. I love documenting our trips, while also dispelling some of the myths surrounding skoolie travel... like can skoolies park in RV parks or national parks?
The short answer is yes, skoolie-friendly campgrounds exist.
Reply to this email if you would love to see a comprehensive list of skoolie-friendly campgrounds. What would you like to see in one?
For years I had wanted to visit Helen, Georgia for its unique Bavarian charm. The city of Helen is tucked into the rolling hills of northern Georgia, at the beginning of the Blue Ridge Mountain range. The downtown area looks like it was dropped in from a German village with distinct "gingerbread" accents and wood features. Obviously, the food and beer is going to be German-themed too.
If you're craving some beer in a boot ("das boot") and spätzle noodles with veal, then this is the town to visit... and you're welcome here in your skoolie too!
In our Helen itinerary, there's actually quite a few activities like tubing the Chattahoochee River and riding the alpine slide.
